Description

A maned wolf I did for college.

I know there are some anatomy errors and such, but I did the lineart really fast, because I thought I had to give it to the teacher on that minute. But I like the design overall.

I clicked this because it has really strong design. I love illustration motivated by design. The negative cloud space in the sun is particularly interesting.

I also think there is nothing to worry about in the pose. It reads really well overall even if you did it quickly. Sometimes the things we do quickly in class end up better than the things we agonize over at home.

The pose also demonstrates a lot of knowledge of the figure and its forms.

The texture in the ground is nice too.

As for improvements I'd say the most dramatic addition could be the lighting. Owning the lighting will take this up to a whole different level. You've drawn a saturated sun low in the sky but the figure and the ground don't seem affected much by it. The shadows on the dark sides will be very dark and very purple, maybe going almost as far as the character being in semi silhouette. The cast shadows will be very long and distorted. The ground texture will be more dramatic too.
You're knowledge of forms will be enhanced with lighting on them.

As for smaller improvements I'd like more details that tell me about the fur. In what places is it long? in what places is it short? Does it bunch in some places? Does it part in some places and fall in others? Does it move when he moves? The tail has some nice attention.

Attention to the fur might also work to improve the overall interest of the silhouette. If you black him out completely what items or characteristics will set him apart from another anthropomorphic maned wolf? I like the feathers on the head and in the bow but how can they pushed even more? How can the things he has and the way he looks tell his backstory?
